Lionel Messi

Lionel Andre’s Messi Cuccittini was born on 24th June the year 1987. Messi is an Argentine footballer who plays for Barcelona and Argentina national team. He also captains both teams. He has a record five Ballon d’Or awards alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi is widely considered the greatest player of all time. He has spent his whole career playing for Barcelona. He holds the record for most European Golden shoes with 6.

Messi has won 34 trophies with Barcelona, including 4 UEFA Champions League titles, 10 La Liga titles and 6 Copas del Rey. He is a prolific goal scorer as well as a creative playmaker. He holds many records in football including, most goals in La Liga (419), most assists in La Liga (169), most assists in Copa America (11) and most hat tricks in the UEFA Champions League (8).


Messi won gold in the Olympic games held in Beijing in the year 2008.

Lionel together with Argentina were runners- up in the 2014 World Cup that was held in Brazil.

He, together with his Argentina team have also managed to be runners- up in the Copa America for three times. These are, 2007 in Venezuela, 2015 in Chile and 2016 in the United States.

The football magician won the FIFA U- 20 World Cup that was held in Netherlands in the year 2005.

Messi managed to win the 2009 Ballon d’Or as well as the 2009 FIFA World Player of the year awards at just 22 years of age by record voting margins. He also went ahead to win three consecutive Ballon d’Ors in the following seasons (2010, 2011 and 2012).

In the 2011- 2012 season, messi proved to be the undisputed king of football by setting the La Liga and European records for most goals in a season. He scored an astonishing 91 goals in one year. Who does that?

For the next two years, (2013 and 2014) Messi  finished second in Ballon d’Or ranking behind his perceived career rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

In the 2014 – 2015 campaign, Messi regained his best form. He broke the record for the all- time leading goal scorer in both the Champions League and La Liga in November 2014. Messi also helped Barcelona get a historic second treble.


During the 2006 FIFA World Cup edition, Messi became the youngest Argentine to score in a FIFA World Cup. Messi also reached the 2007 Copa America final where he was named young player of the tournament. As the national team’s captain, Messi led Argentina to 3 consecutive finals (2014 FIFA World Cup, 2015 and 2016 Copas America). It is worth noting that Messi won the Golden Ball in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It is also worth noting that Messi is his country’s all-time leading goalscorer.
