The Africa Cup of Nations 2019, is the 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament is organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Egypt is the host of this tournament. The tournament started on 21st June and is scheduled to end on 19th July 2019. Initially, this tournament was held in January/February but was moved to June/July. AFCON 2019 is also unique in that it has 24 participants (teams) after it was expanded from 16 teams.
The tournament was scheduled to be held in Cameroon but it was stripped of hosting rights. This was attributed to delays in infrastructure delivery, the Anglophone crisis and the Boko Haram insurgency.
It is the fifth time that Egypt is hosting this tournament after 1959, 1974, 1986 and 2006. This makes it the country that has hosted it for the most times.
